Airbnb near Ile Grande

For months I've been calling this place "crepe island" because this is where crepes first originated. My colleague Liza (she co-wrote Scriber's book with me) invited me to the workshop at the farmhouse in Italy and to her friends' housewarming party here in Northern France. How lucky am I? I will post a good picture of Liza tomorrow...just realized I haven't done that yet! So these are scenes from our arrival tonight. We rented a car in Paris to drive out here, and it has been a comedy of errors. But we've been fortunate enough to see tons of sights because of the car...what I don't want to admit is that we discovered today that our Volkswagen has GPS and we've been using roaming on our phones (at a very high cost) for two days. Haha. Stupid. But ah well...don't tell anyone please!

Party pictures to come!

Our airbnb and surrounding areas. It's paradise!

A pizza truck in the grocery store parking lot. It saved my life.

Just another ancient stone house.

St. Malo

St. Malo is a walled port city on the northern tip of France on the English Channel. It is infamous for piracy!

Liza and I walked all the way around thsee walls. A gorgeous day!

I Am So Surprised to Be Saying This...

I think I love France! I really do! It's not just the crepes and the pastries and the moules and frites  (mussels and fries), but it's this place filled with stone houses and geraniums and pastures and very kind pleasant people...

Which one would you choose? I had the pear tart with chocolate chips. Uh huh.

Had to do the Nutella crepe.

Normandy

Omaha Beach, where Allied forces landed on June 6, 1944. Over 9000 American servicemen died near here, over 2000 died on this beach on that day. Over a four mile stretch of beach, the operation included five zones for landing...the only other one I can remember is "Utah."

The memorial above, the interpretation below. Moving to stand here, to say the least.
